Into the dragons’ den: how to find and win funds for your urban catchment projects

We still live in an age of austerity. Investing in the environment is viewed as a low priority. Unless catchment managers start presenting their projects as enablers of development, growth and jobs, there will be little progress in restoring the quality of urban rivers. A webinar on 25th April will bring together potential funders (“buyers”) of catchment projects with suppliers of catchment services (“sellers”) from the Bristol Avon, to share tips about presenting requests for funding in a more compelling way. The event marks the launch of a report commissioned by the Environment Agency, which will pull together examples of innovative approaches to catchment funding in urban areas. For more details on the report or to sign up, please email Yvonne: yjrees@btinternet.com.

HS2 Community and Business Funds

Groundwork has announced that the HS2 Community and Environment Fund (CEF) and Business and Local Economy Fund (BLEF) are open for applications.

The charity has been appointed as the independent grant management body of the £40 million combined Funds, to offset the disruption on local communities and businesses from the construction of the Phase One of HS2. The funding will be available during the construction and first year of operation of the high-speed rail link between London and the West Midlands over the next 11 years.

The two funding streams available which were originally announced in October 2014 are:

  • The Community and Environment Fund (CEF) will provide benefits to local communities demonstrably disrupted by the construction of HS2; and
  • The Business and Local Economy Fund (BLEF) will support and promote local economies that are demonstrably disrupted by the construction of HS2.

Heritage Lottery Fund Consultation

The Department for Culture Media & Sport (DCMS) have asked Catchment Partnerships (and other place-based partnerships) to complete the online questionnaire to review the Heritage Lottery Fund. Heritage, natural environment and other cultural organisations, as well as members of the public, are all invited to submit their views.  The consultation is open until the 6 April.  Input is welcomed, particularly from organisations in the West Midlands, North East and North West where so far representations have been thin on the ground so far.
