Among the ongoing programme of CIWEM events is a free webinar series on ‘Nature-based solutions & the Environmental Land Management (ELM) scheme’.

Defra has paused its consultation on proposals and ideas for its Environmental Land Management scheme (ELMs) which will usher in a new approach of public money paying for public goods, such as nature recovery and natural flood management. Now is an ideal time to reflect on the consultation and a wide range of stakeholder views.

The Natural Capital Committee have warned that a “carbon only” approach to nature-based solutions to deliver net zero risks undermining potential to deliver far wider benefit. ELMs can deliver for both decarbonization and a wide range of additional goods.

  • How can public money be directed through ELMs so that it delivers the biggest public goods ‘bang’ for the public money ‘buck’?
  • What mistakes should we make sure we avoid?
  • How and where can natural flood management be most effectively delivered?
  • How can nature recovery be driven at scale?

Hear from government and its advisors, the agriculture sector, academics, policy and conservation NGOs about their priorities for delivering nature-based solutions through ELMs in this free 3-part webinar series.

Please note that registrations for the series will close on 19th May, so book your place early.
