UN Warning on global fish production reaching sustainable limit

    News

The MSC funding awards follows the UN’s warning last week that global fish production is now reaching its sustainable limit, with around 90 per cent of the world’s stocks now fully or overfished and production set to increase further by 2025. Six scientific research projects focused on boosting sustainable fishing practices have been awarded a total of more than £200,000 funding from the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). Announced by the MSC, the funding is aimed at strengthening knowledge and building capacity for small-scale and developing world fisheries to achieve sustainability standards. The money has been awarded to projects in areas including Japan, Indonesia and the Guianas.
