Two reports on the relationship of business with climate change policies.
A new report commissioned by the Environment Agency says climate change is presenting UK businesses with opportunities as well as risks. It is based on survey data showing that 86% of companies have identified one or more climate-related risks, and approximately 1 opportunity for every 3 risks reported. Key issues relate to higher temperatures, water use and flood risks. Key benefits include protecting vital assets, maintaining business continuity, and gaining a competitive advantage.
LSE Study shows no evidence that climate change policies make UK less competitive
According to the London School of Economics, there is “no evidence” that climate change policies make the UK less competitive. In fact, researchers find that policies can increase long term competitiveness by encouraging greater innovation and efficiency. As a result, the economists conclude that the UK should adopt an ambitious fifth carbon budget up to 2032.
