Beneficial Use of Sediments – evidence and awards

    News

ABPmer: ‘The UK’s first and largest beneficial use of dredged sediment projects took place at Horsey Island (Hamford Water, Essex). Now that over 10 years have passed since the completion of the last phase of work (and nearly 30 years since the first trial phases) ABPmer has prepared a brief review of all the Horsey Island projects. Find out more at http://www.abpmer.co.uk/buzz/horsey-island-coastal-restoration-10-years-on/.

In the meantime the RSPB’s landscape-scale habitat creation scheme on Wallasea Island has won the Environment Agency Project Excellence Award for Sustainable Resource Management. The project used spoil from the Crossrail tunnel scheme. Project Excellence Awards are awarded to projects that have been either managed or supported by the Environment Agency and demonstrate a contribution towards protecting and improving the environment for people and wildlife.’
