Sometimes I catch up with things horribly late – this time it is 6 months. The Green – Blue celebrated its 10th anniversary in September 2015. Keeping projects like this going is a major challenge and they are to be congratulated. They continue to produce useful guidance and support for the freshwater and marine recreational boating community. You can find out more and sign up below.

The Green Blue

The Green Blue is the joint environment programme created by the Royal Yachting Association and British Marine for anyone who enjoys getting out on the water or whose livelihood depends on it. We help boat users, boating businesses, sailing clubs and training centres to reduce their impact on coastal and inland waters to keep them in great shape for now and the future. What do we do?   The Green Blue raises awareness, supports practical projects, runs bespoke outreach activities and offers easy to follow advice to make boating in the UK as sustainable as possible.

The Green Blue, the joint environmental initiative of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and British Marine has celebrated 10 years of successfully helping boat users, boating businesses, sailing clubs and training centres reduce their impact on coastal and inland waters to keep them in great shape for now and the future!

The Green Blue, with support from The Crown Estate’s Marine Stewardship Programme, raises environmental awareness and identifies eco-friendly products to make boating in the UK as sustainable as possible. The small Hamble-based team also offers help, guidance and even money saving tips for anyone who wishes to help keep our coasts and inland waters the pleasant places that we enjoy so much.

Speaking at the 10th Anniversary Celebrations as part of the 2015 Southampton Boat Show, The Green Blue Project Manager Jane Swan said: “What a difference a decade makes! It only seems like yesterday that global yachtsman Mike Golding and artist Pippa Blake were launching The Green Blue and in 2015 it’s amazing to think that the project is now celebrating its tenth anniversary.

New Green Guide on How to Install a Holding Tank

The Green Blue has published a new Green Guide to Holding Tank Installation as part of the Love Where You Sail initiative in partnership with the Environment Agency to raise awareness of responsible boat discharge. The environmental guide provides advice on which construction material is best for holding tanks, as well as installation and maintenance best practice. It also features a host of top tips on how to prevent system blockages and holding tank pong!

Jane Swan, The Green Blue Project Manager, explained: “Having a holding tank on your boat enables you and your crew to enjoy your time on the water knowing that you are comfortable, responsible and compliant with relevant, local legislation.

“Environmental initiatives have never been so easy to implement and we hope that our new guide will answer the common questions if you’re thinking of installing a holding tank, whether you choose to self-install or find a company to do it for you.”
