Two sets of reports on droughts

1.  Understanding the performance of water supply systems during mild to extreme droughts

EA ‘This project assessed the performance of different types of public water supply systems in England and Wales in a range of droughts, including those that are more severe than the worst droughts in the historical record. This information was used to identify the relative sensitivity of different supply systems under stress. The results of these ‘stress tests’ will help to improve our understanding of water supply system sensitivity to drought.

2.  Water Company Drought plan guideline

The Environment Agency has published a summary of consultation responses to the recent update of the water company drought plan guideline. There is support for closer links between the drought plan and water resource management plan, and for options to enhance resilience to be set out in drought plans. The new Guideline is now available.
