The new Labour leader has previously set out his environmental ambitions. They include international leadership on climate change, investment in green energy and protection of ecosystems.

Jeremy Corbyn has previously written that “the major electricity, gas, water and railway infrastructures of Britain were built through public investment since the end of WWII and were all privatised at knock-down prices for the benefit of greedy asset-strippers by the Thatcher and Major-led Tory governments”. Further, “enormous profits are being dragged out of the water industry by hedge funds that pretend to be providing a quality water service”.

Rising stars Kerry McCarthy and Lisa Nandy have been appointed as shadow secretaries for state for environment and energy respectively.

Meanwhile, Business Green reports that, having secured the Labour nomination to succeed Boris Johnson, Sadiq Khan has promised to be the ‘greenest’ London mayor. Air quality would be the top priority, with Khan committed to reducing pollution from vehicles and opposing the expansion of Heathrow.
