At least Europe is taking the lead on the marine environment

At least Europe is taking the lead on the marine environment

    • A new report published today by the European Environment Agency shows that, despite some improvements, the way we use our seas remains unsustainable and threatens not only the productivity of our seas, but also our wellbeing. Human activities and climate change are increasingly putting a number of pressures on Europe’s seas, the cumulative effects of which threaten the functioning and resilience of marine ecosystems.
    • The EU maritime affairs and fisheries are seeking input on how to achieve better international governance of oceans and seas to the benefit of sustainable blue growth. The results of the consultation will affect the development of the EU policy on improving the international governance framework.. See http://ec.europa.eu/dgs/maritimeaffairs_fisheries/consultations/ocean-governance/index_en.htm. The deadline is 15 Sept 2015.
