The 10 Vision 2030 White Papers, each focussing on a specific Ocean Decade Challenger represent a collaborative effort to develop the science we need for the ocean we want by 2030.
Twenty co-chairs and more than 150 experts have worked over a year to assess current user needs, identified priority datasets, and highlight gaps in science and knowledge.
Each white paper delves into the resource is infrastructure, partnerships, capacity development and technology solutions necessary to achieve our goals by 2030, providing strategic recommendations to ensure that we meet these challenges and pave the way for a sustainable future for our oceans.
Presented at 2024 Ocean Decade Conference in Barcelona, Spain, the white papers have been reviewed by the Ocean Global Community.
The Vision 2030 White Papers were finalized by the experts of the 10 Working Groups and published in their final versions below:
- Understand and beat marine pollution.
- Protect and restore ecosystems and biodiversity.
- Sustainably nourish the global population.
- Develop a sustainable and equitable ocean economy.
- Unlock ocean based solutions to climate change.
- Increase community resilience to ocean hazards.
- Sustainably expand the global ocean observing system.
- Create a digital representation of the ocean.
- Skills, knowledge, technology and participate re decision making for all.
- Restoring society’s relationship with the ocean.
What is the “Vision 2030”?
To strengthen momentum for ocean knowledge-based solutions, the Ocean Decade has launched a strategic ambition setting process to identify a common measure of success for each of the 10 Ocean Decade Challenges on the road to 2030.
It will take stock of current trends, gaps, and priority user needs and identify key targets and milestones to measure progress and enhance collective impact of the Decade.
