The European Commission has adopted its second strategic plan for Horizon Europe, of which the UK is again a part.

Horizon Europe is the EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation with a budget of €95.5 billion. It tackles climate change, helps to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and boosts the EU’s competitiveness and growth.

The new plan sets out key strategic orientations for the EU’s research and innovation funding between 2025 and 2027, which include the green transition and addressing global challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss.

The new strategy will be implemented through work programmes, which set out the funding opportunities for research and innovation activities through thematic calls for proposals and topics.

In April 2024, the Commission will launch a feedback opportunity for the Work Programme 2025 open to all stakeholders.
