The Environment Agency’s Restoring Meadows, Marsh and Reef (ReMeMaRe) team has initiated a project to develop a new national marine habitat restoration platform.

Currently there is no centralised national resource collating the status of UK marine habitat creation and restoration projects.  This means it is difficult to know what projects are planned, where projects are happening, their objectives and whether they have been met. The lack of such a repository also means good practice or lessons learned are not being readily shared.

Identified in ReMeMaRe’s Delivery Plan, such an online national habitat restoration platform will catalogue, map and maintain oversight of UK habitat creation and restoration activities.

It is expected that the platform will also help:

  • Make project data, reports, and information more accessible
  • Understand lessons learnt and develop best practice
  • Enhance collaborative working
  • Support national and regional commitment reporting
  • Inform marine spatial planning

To ensure any such platform meets user needs, ReMeMaRe has commissioned ABPmer and Logic Software to engage with representatives with a statutory remit, and to consult with the wider habitat creation/restoration community.
