A coalition of environmental and wildlife NGOs has called on Ofwat to go further to ensure catchment and nature-based solutions are mainstreamed at PR24.

In a letter, Blueprint for Water called for 10% of Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) spending to be on green solutions; for Ofwat to encourage companies to commit to outcomes rather than narrow outputs in their plans; and to be clear on its expectations about voluntary benefit sharing with customers from a much expanded regulatory asset base by 2030.

Blueprint for Water cautioned that company communications suggest a bias in favour of grey solutions and that sewage schemes will drown out other elements of the WINEP spend.
