Drivers and benefits of a multi-capitals approach

    NewsWater

Published on 23rd May, the Water Industry Forum’s latest thought leadership paper, ‘Driving best value decision making within the water industry using a multi-capitals approach’, explains what is meant by a multi-capitals approach and the drivers and potential benefits of this approach.  It also aims to demonstrate commitment across the industry, by both water companies and regulators, to ensuring that we are making better decisions that reflect the wider benefits and impacts of the water industry’s services and activities.

Developed with the support of Atkins through a collaborative process with representatives from a wide range of water companies, CC Water and Ofwat, it’s publication will be marked by a breakfast webinar on Tuesday 7th June 2022 which will provide both a general introduction to the paper and the opportunity to ask questions on the content of the paper.

Referring to the paper, Craig Bennett (CEO, The Wildlife Trusts) said ‘Society can only secure affordable and resilient water services by consistently and comprehensively reflecting the full value of nature throughout its decision making, and the capitals approach provides the framework to do just this.’

Mark Gough (CEO, Capitals Coalition) added ‘“There is strong evidence that a capitals approach delivers real and wide ranging benefits to businesses and society. At the Capitals Coalition, we have welcomed the leading role taken by several organisations in the UK water sector to develop, test and embed the capitals. I am delighted to see this publication and the drive for continued momentum and maturity.”

The paper and further details on the launch event can be found on the British Water website here.
