Freeing the UK from Single Use Plastic – The Plastic Free Communities Impact Report

    NewsWater

Plastic Free Communities is a Surfers Against Sewage campaign to inspire, unite and empower communities to break free from single-use plastic and eliminate it at source. The campaign centres on a toolkit which focuses on achieving objectives in five areas:

    1. Working with the local council
    2. Encouraging local businesses to reduce single use plastic
    3. Signing up community groups, schools and organisations
    4. Holding events and actions open to all
    5. Setting up a steering group to drive the movement Once a community has achieved these objectives it receives the SAS Plastic Free Communities award

Insley Consulting Ltd was commissioned in 2021 to undertake an independent evaluation of the campaign, including the amount of plastic that has been reduced as a result. This report pulls out some of the key stats on the movement. Click here to read more
