    Drinking water quality in England, 2017 to 2019

    Report from Defra and Drinking Water Inspectorate on the quality of all individual supplies of drinking water that exceed 1,000 cubic meters a day or serve more than 5,000 people in England.

    This report is published every 3 years and demonstrates the high quality of drinking water in England.

    Around 99% of the population receive a public supply from a water company. During 2017 to 2019, public water supply compliance with the drinking water regulations was 99.95%.

    The remaining 1% of the population have a private water supply which is often taken from a well, spring or borehole on private land. During 2017 to 2019, private water supply compliance with the drinking water regulations for the largest 11 supplies was 97.60%.
