Update on water industry carbon reduction research

    NewsWater

    From UKWIR

    Good afternoon

We’re really pleased to share an overview of four major projects underway to address one of the biggest challenges the water sector is facing – achieving net zero operational carbon emissions.

This document provides a snapshot of our work under our Big Question – How do we remove more carbon than we emit by 2050?

    The four projects are:

    • Quantifying and reducing direct greenhouse gas emissions
    • Updating our Carbon Accounting Workbook
    • Land Carbon Sequestration Tool
    • Calculating whole life carbon

The projects are helping address shortfalls in two key areas – measurement and accountability.

They will also identify opportunities to reduce carbon emissions across the sector’s activities and value chain and continue providing credible accounting tools so government, regulators, stakeholders and customers have confidence in the sector’s ability to meet its carbon commitments.

We’ll share more information on each project as they progress and will share findings from them all in Spring next year.

Our overview can be found here. For more on our work to help reduce carbon emissions, or all our Big Questions, visit our website.

    Kind regards

    The UKWIR Team
