Camera tagging reveals more about the behaviour of basking sharks

    MarineNews

Results from camera tagging of six basking sharks in the Sea of Hebrides has provided 123 hours of video data revealing more about the behaviour of the sharks including filming the first complete breaching event and the first sub-surface possible courtship display, with nose-to-tail chasing, parallel swimming as well as the first observation of grouping behaviour near the seabed. The results from a study by University of Exeter researchers in collaboration with NatureScot come from the tagging of 3 sharks in 2018 and a further 3 sharks in 2019. There are plans for further camera tagging work this summer.
