Fishing will be a ‘red line’ in Brexit negotiations
It is the only industry to figure specifically in the list of negotiating priorities and is described as a “red line” issue. The UK’s hard line is expected to run into stiff opposition from EU fleets which rely on UK waters for over a third of their total catch. The UK has some of the richest fishing grounds in the world but British vessels catch less than a third of all fish caught there.

MMO ‘Fishing industry will need to adhere to existing regulations until the end of the transition period.The UK will be actively negotiating new trading and fisheries agreements with the EU and other third countries during this transition period, up to December 31st 2020. The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is reminding the fishing industry that the UK will continue to abide by the current rules, which apply to all UK, EU and other vessels fishing in UK waters, throughout this period.
