    Climate records broken (again)

    NewsWater

A familiar refrain as we enter a new year/decade is that several climate records were broken in the previous one. The latest set of climate data from the Met Office has been widely reported, including by the BBC, with the main points being

    • The decade just ended was the second hottest in the past 100 years (the hottest is 2000-09)
    • The highest ever winter and summer temperatures were recorded in 2019
    • The top 10 hottest years have all occurred since 2002
    • Last year was also the 11th wettest on record
