CIWEM Combatting the climate and ecological crisis must be established firmly at the heart of policymaking, so we’ve published our recommendations for the next government. Please see attached or view online here.
We have a decade in which to set ourselves firmly on the trajectory to a zero-carbon economy if we are to stand a hope of keeping global warming to a maximum of 1.5C and avoiding dangerous climate change. Combatting the climate and ecological crisis must be established firmly at the heart of policymaking, so we’ve published our recommendations for the next government.
We declared a climate and ecological emergency. Environmental professionals hold the key to developing and implementing solutions to the climate and ecological emergency, and we must also recognise how our own activities contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and biodiversity loss.
As actions fundamental to combatting the climate and ecological emergency, we call on the next government to deliver:
- Expansion of low carbon energy
- Homes and places resilient to a changing climate
- A clear route to sustainable transport and infrastructure, and healthier more productive local communities
- Nature recovery on a national scale
- Greener supply chains
