We recently reported on George Monbiot’s attack on natural capital, an approach he describes as “morally wrong, intellectually vacuous, emotionally alienating and self-defeating”.

The backlash is now well and truly underway, led by (who else?) the Natural Capital Coalition. According to the Coalition, “he continues to fundamentally misrepresent the approach, leads a named attack on a leading environmentalist, and offers up largely misleading criticisms and sound bites”.

In other recent ‘nat cap’ developments, the Environmental Knowledge Network has launched the Natural Capital Assessment Gateway. It profiles over 70 assessments of natural capital, ecosystem services and green infrastructure across the UK. This interactive, searchable, map-based facility allows you to explore projects at the local, regional and national scale.
