In the 2000s there were a number of concerns and studies on the Slapton Ley Road linking South Hams (Torcross) to the ‘Dartmouth’ end of the beach. In 2012 a Defra Coastal Pathfinder explored what would happen if the road was taken out by rising sea levels and storms.

The project team held some thankless consultation meetings where local voices strongly expressed their concerns. Well while Emma was causing a snowy havoc across the south-west it also brought fierce storm damage to the south coast of Devon. The residents of Torcross were evacuated in the current storm. The storm also removed large stretches of the road that had been the subject of the pathfinder. See this link
