Residual flood risk

The CCC has also published research to assess the extent that recently delivered flood alleviation schemes in England have been designed to support the long-term reduction in residual flood risk. Basically, it finds that, whilst flood alleviation schemes are generally doing what they’re supposed to do, more consistency in appraising schemes and in ensuring that schemes are focused on outcomes, is needed.

Adaptation Reporting Power process

A new report by ARCC (Adaptation and Resilience in the Context of Change) seeks to understand the value of the Adaptation Reporting Power process. It summarises the gaps and shortfalls in the knowledge and evidence available from research. These range from “the need for very detailed scientific information on specific climate variables and their potential impacts, through innovative and user-friendly decision support tools, to the need for effective knowledge exchange processes to facilitate the provision of useful research outputs”.

Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures

The Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures has published its framework for integrating climate-related information into financial reporting. According to the report, this will help “to price risk to support informed, efficient capital-allocation decisions”.

The Scottish Government has published a new Climate Bill for consultation. It would raise its 2050 greenhouse gas reduction target from 80% to 90%, with correspondingly higher interim targets. The Welsh Government is consulting on a wide range of natural resources issues, suggesting that Wales may potentially go it alone in a number of areas including on abstraction reform in the absence of a Water Bill plus stronger measures around SUDS.
