Warship made from plastic waste invades Cornish coast – SAS

Environmental charity Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) has unveiled a 30ft warship made entirely of plastic litter to highlight the growing threat of throwaway plastic in the seas.

Built on a Cornish beach, the SAS Wasteland Warship highlights the charity’s latest study which found one in four people are unaware not all plastics are recyclable.

It is made out of five tonnes of plastic waste collected from around the UK.

The findings also show a third of Brits throw away more than three plastic bottles on a weekly basis despite them being either refillable or recyclable.

In a bid to reduce the quantities of plastic entering our oceans, SAS is calling for the public to join their “resistance against Wasteland” – the name given to this growing mass of marine plastic.

SAS chief executive Hugo Tagholm said: “Five times the size of the UK, Wasteland is growing and threatens to destroy us and our planet, yet it is a ‘country’ not many know about. Read more here
