Structures in the Marine Environment (SIME) 2026 Conference
The INSITE Programme’s SIME Conference 2026 is coming to the Copthorne Hotel, Newcastle, on 9-10 June 2026.
Across the two days, the conference will bring together researchers, policymakers and industry to explore the evolving role and value of marine artificial structures (MAS) in the offshore environment, including INSITE Phase 3 project teams and VALMAS.
Day 1 will focus on a broad range of research themes, including:
- Decommissioning and offshore expansion in a nature-positive context
- Risks and opportunities associated with lesser-known marine artificial structures
- The role of communication and meaningful consultation in enabling a just energy transition
- Approaches to developing transparent and robust decision-making frameworks
Day 2 (morning) will turn to policy and future-facing discussions, covering:
- Navigating policy conflicts and identifying co-benefits across climate, nature and energy security
- End-of-life considerations, including repowering, reuse and circularity in offshore energy
The afternoon of Day 2 will feature an interactive workshop (2:00 pm – 4:30 pm), from the READ-ME team, piloting their new public survey – register now and be part of the conversation!
We look forward to welcoming you to Newcastle for what promises to be an engaging and timely event.
