SMEEF Taking Flight Round 2 open for applications

SMEEF is pleased to announce the launch of the second round of open funding from the Seabirds Resilience Fund. ‘Taking Flight’ is designed to accelerate progress against the Scottish Seabird Conservation Action Plan and its aim of maximising seabird prospects and building resilience in seabird populations.

Taking Flight is open for Expressions of Interests (EoI) from Monday 27th July until midday on Friday 21st August. Shortlisted projects will then be invited to submit a full application in October, with grant decisions to be finalised in early 2027.

Building on the success of round 1, Taking Flight will continue to support key objectives outlined in the Scottish Seabird Conservation Action Plan. Grants will be available for projects demonstrating innovative technology or methodology development to build on seabird knowledge or trial novel restoration work.

We will be holding a webinar on Wednesday 5th August, 9:30 – 10:30 am for prospective applicants to speak directly with the grants team and ask questions about their project and the application process. A recording of the webinar will be made available on our website following the event.

You can find more information about Taking Flight, including the Grant Criteria and application process here. Alternatively contact the SMEEF Seabirds Officer, Hettie Pike, through grants@smeef.scot.

Taking Flight is supported by the Seabird Resilience Fund, which was set up within SMEEF following voluntary contributors from offshore renewable energy developers in the Northeast and East Ornithology Group (NEEOG). This initiative would not be possible without developers within NEEOG and we thank them for their generous donations.
