Shaping the Future of Wales’s Coasts: The 2026 Coastal Stakeholder Survey

    MarineNews

The Welsh Government, in collaboration with the Coasts and Seas Partnership (CaSP), is undertaking an ambitious initiative to ensure that marine and coastal areas across Wales remain healthy, thriving, and community-led. As part of a wider programme of Coastal Capacity Building, the government has commissioned APEM to conduct a comprehensive Coastal Stakeholder Survey to map the organisations and networks that define the nation’s maritime identity.

    Who is Encouraged to Participate?

The Welsh Government is seeking input from representatives of organisations, groups, or community networks within Wales or working in connection with Welsh coasts and seas —such as managers, CEOs, or designated lead contacts.

The survey is open to those working in Wales already deeply involved in marine activity, as well as community groups located within coastal areas that may not yet be actively engaged in maritime issues. For those representing more than one organisation, a separate response for each is encouraged to ensure a comprehensive map of activity.

The survey is also seeking stakeholders who are underrepresented or work with underrepresented sections of communities, regardless of their current involvement in marine and coastal issues.

    Building a Clearer Picture

The primary goal of this research is to develop a more inclusive understanding of the groups and community networks connected to Wales’s coasts and seas. By refreshing the national stakeholder list, the Welsh Government aims to bridge gaps in representation and identify where local strengths exist.

The data gathered will serve as a foundational resource to:

    • Coordinate Action: Foster more inclusive, community-led projects for the coast.
    • Map Expertise: Identify areas where coastal capacity is strong and where further support or resources may be required.
    • Strengthen Networks: Support the creation of a publicly available online coastal directory for marine planning and improved data sharing across the sector.

    How to Take Part

The survey is designed to be straightforward and typically takes between 10 and 15 minutes to complete.

    • Language Options: A Welsh-language version is available by selecting ‘Cymraeg’ from the drop-down menu at the top right of the survey page.
    • Access the Survey: Click here to begin the survey
    • The Closing Date is 24th April.
