From Silos to Systems
Relational frameworks to foster collaboration, unlocking value for marine and coastal management
“Nature doesn’t work in silos, neither should we”
Commonwealth Secretariat, 2026
20 October 2026 | The Abbey Conference Centre | London
How do we move from fragmented, siloed working to more collaborative, joined-up, effective marine and coastal management?
This first of its kind, one-day meeting will bring together marine scientists, policy makers, regulators and management practitioners to explore how relational frameworks can help reveal connections across the UK’s marine science, policy and regulatory landscape.
Through a mix of presentations, practical examples and interactive discussion, the event will explore how stronger collaboration can reduce duplication, improve decision-making and unlock greater value for the marine environment and wider society. We will:
- Explain and understand the relational frameworks between UK marine science and governance in terms of regulations, licensing and policy development
- Demonstrate how successful collaboration works and enable participants to understand the key lessons of such collaboration efforts
- Explore what specific topics could benefit from greater collaboration built around relationships between frameworks, to deliver real value for the marine environment and wider society
Attendees will leave with a better understanding of how different organisations, programmes and evidence sources fit together, practical insights into successful collaborative approaches, and the opportunity to help shape future priorities to solve the most pressing issues in marine and coastal management, through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Whether you work in science, policy, regulation or delivery, this event offers a unique opportunity to exchange ideas, build new connections and contribute to the future of collaborative marine and coastal management.
