PRINCIPAL AND SENIOR FISH HEALTH CONSULTANTS

Ocean Ecology Ltd. is growing rapidly within the aquaculture sector and we are now investing in a new UK-focused fish health unit to cater for the growing demand for expert fish health and welfare services in Scotland.

As part of Ocean Ecology, you’ll join our aquaculture team and benefit from direct access to Norway’s top fish health experts through Åkerblå – a DNV company. With the collective expertise of more than 70 veterinarians and aqua medicine biologists, our goal is to establish a leading competence centre in Scotland, offering exceptional opportunities for both professional and personal development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

These roles will be pivotal in shaping and expanding our fish health unit, offering significant opportunities for business development, customer relations, and strategic growth. The candidate will also play a key role in facilitating knowledge transfer between Norway and the UK, fostering collaboration and establishing best practices for fish health management.

Operational tasks will also include:

  • Monitoring fish health at various aquaculture sites, including hatcheries, smolt ongrowing facilities, and marine fish farms.
  • Overseeing delousing operations, vaccination, hygiene inspections, and other fish health-related tasks.
  • Facilitating the development and production of biosecurity and fish health management strategies and plans.
  • Investigation of specific fish health-related incidents (e.g. an outbreak of disease) and subsequent reporting.

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Veterinary degree recognised by the RCVS
  • Service-oriented with professional integrity
  • Enjoys fieldwork and being at sea
  • Thrives in a varied and challenging work environment
  • Independent, structured, and passionate about the field
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • 3-5 years’ experience (Senior) and 10+ years’ experience (Principle) in a related role, e.g. as a fish vet or fish health biologist
  • Sound understanding of the various regulatory regimes applicable to finfish aquaculture in Scotland, especially those administered by the Fish Health Inspectorate (FHI) and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA).
