Our Team
The Natural Power Consenting & Environment team offers and performs a range of planning and environmental related services right the way through a renewable energy project’s life.
We bring together qualified planners and project managers with a range of technical specialists to support our clients through site identification, feasibility, scoping, EIA, HRA, and post-consent support. For offshore projects we also provide support on bidding into lease rounds and bring together specialists for each of the onshore and offshore components.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
The main purpose of the role is to contribute to the successful co-ordination and delivery of offshore environmental services, with a focus on marine ornithology.
The Offshore Ornithology Consultant will be involved in multiple offshore renewables projects (offshore wind and associated grid infrastructure) and provide input to technical reports to clients and colleagues as part of the successful delivery of high-quality advice and written outputs. Projects requiring ornithological inputs will include development phase projects off the UK and Ireland, including inputs to constraint reviews, scoping, environmental impact assessment, and development of compensation measures; as well as construction and operation phase projects, with inputs including the discharge of planning conditions, developing of monitoring, and further development of compensation measures.
The Offshore Planning and Environment Team are based at various locations in the UK and Ireland, and you will be working closely with colleagues from other specialist environment, planning and engineering disciplines. A summary of key tasks is as follows:
- Provide inputs to marine ornithological technical reports to clients including (but not limited to) survey design, data collection, dersk-based reviews, data analysis and interpretation, feasibility, scoping, impact assessments, and compensation measures.
- Contribute to technical reports for other disciplines, such as onshore ornithology, marine mammals, marine ecology; if this is an area of interest.
- Manage small-scale projects including contracts, staff, subcontractor and budget management.
- Maintain an understanding of the current guidance, and approaches being used in the offshore renewables sector, to inform the requirements for this advice.
- Undertake training and learn from other staff to further develop your career at Natural Power.

Person Profile
Area: Education & Qualifications
Essential Criteria:
Educated to degree level in Biology, Environmental Science or a relevant discipline and/or equivalent experience
Desirable Criteria:
MSc in relent discipline Relevant professional qualification such as IEMA or CIEEM.
Area: Specialist Knowledge & Skills
Essential Criteria:
Knowledge of seabird ecology.
Knowledge of offshore renewables sector.
Desirable Criteria:
Knowledge of other ecology disciplines, such as onshore ecology, marine mammals and marine ecology.
Area: Relevant Experience
Essential Criteria:
Experience of marine ornithology survey design, data collection, data analysis and interpretation specific to renewable projects.
Experience of the onshore renewables sector.
Desirable Criteria:
Specific experience of EIA for offshore wind farms.
Knowledge and experience of Habitat Regulations.
Experienced at project management, including time and resource allocation.
Area: Interpersonal & Communication Skills
Essential Criteria:
Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with and manage client and colleague relationships.
Any Additional Requirements
