Benthic Solutions Limited is a marine environmental survey and consulting company delivering a broad range of services to the offshore renewable, utility, oil and gas, and aquaculture industries worldwide from the shoreline to full ocean depth. We are recruiting for a range of positions to support the growth of the company, based in our recently completed science park in Hoveton, located a short 15 minute commute from the vibrant medieval city of Norwich, ranked 2nd in The Times ‘Best Places to Live’ 2022 UK guide.

SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT WRITER

You will support the Reporting Manager in the delivery of analytical and reporting requirements, including:

  • Compilation of reports (e.g. Bibliographic Desktop Study, MMO/PAM, Environmental Baseline /Characterisation, Habitat/Biotope Assessment, Pre-/Post-drill, Pre-/Post-decommissioning, Monitoring)
  • Responsibility for specific projects, liaising with clients/subcontractors and overseeing production of reports to a high standard
  • Interpretation of geophysical/environmental datasets and use of appropriate univariate and multivariate statistical techniques
  • Deliver technical knowhow (nature conservation/environmental legislation, survey design, environmental data interpretation, habitat assessment, statistical analysis, scientific report writing, data presentation, map/figure production, GIS) to support training of report writers
  • Develop analysis/reporting methods and resources to improve quality/efficiency
  • Support preparation of GIS deliverables using ArcGIS

Applicants should possess a relevant BSc degree and have a minimum of 2 years’ experience as an environmental report writer in the survey industry.

ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT WRITER/ASSISTANT REPORT WRITER

You will support the Reporting Manager in the delivery of analytical and reporting requirements, including:

  • Interpretation of geophysical/environmental datasets and use of appropriate univariate and multivariate statistical techniques
  • Compilation of reports to meet client requirements (e.g. Bibliographic Desktop Study, Environmental Baseline/Characterisation, Habitat / Biotope Assessment, Pre-/Post-drill, Pre-/Post-decommissioning, Monitoring)
  • Granulometry analysis of sediment samples by sieving and laser particle sizing
  • Opportunity to conduct intertidal phase 1 biotope surveys

Applicants should possess a minimum of a relevant BSc degree and ideally 1 year experience as an environmental report writer in the survey industry; graduates with demonstrable aptitude will also be considered (at ‘Assistant’ level).

TENDER WRITER

You will support the Commercial Manager in the delivery of technical and commercial proposals:

  • Responsible for the quality of all aspects of the bid, including written documentation and presentations, often associated with short deadlines
  • Produce documents that are clear and concise requiring attention to detail, consistency and accuracy
  • Co-ordinate design input to ensure the visual standard of all documentation and presentation material
  • Support the commercial department in business meetings, conferences and exhibitions

Applicants should be educated to degree level and ideally have a minimum of 1 year experience in a tendering/commercial role in the offshore survey industry.

MARINE BENTHIC TAXONOMIST/ASSISTANT BENTHIC TAXONOMIST

As a Marine Benthic Taxonomist, you will be involved in all aspects of laboratory work, including:

  • Sieve, sort, identify, enumerate marine and estuarine benthic fauna, including all phyla from intertidal regions, shelf seas and deep waters around the UK and globally
  • Efficient and accurate recording of data and preparation of outputs to the reporting team
  • Maintain the standards of an internationally recognised quality control scheme
  • Develop, maintain, store and prepare sample reference collections

Applicants should have a BSc degree in marine biology (or relevant subject), 1 year experience working in a marine benthic taxonomy laboratory and appreciate the need for efficiency in a commercial laboratory. Graduates who have completed a relevant marine benthic dissertation as part of their studies, involving the sorting and identification of benthic macrofauna samples, will also be considered.

Interviewees will be required to demonstrate their skill in accurate and quick identification of macrobenthic taxa, knowledge of taxonomy and enthusiasm for the subject.
