LIFE Recreation Remedies Assistant Project Manager – Communications
Part time, fixed term until October 2023
LIFE Recreation ReMEDIES projects aims are:
- Protect from, and reduce, recreational pressures to England’s most important and at risk seagrass beds, moving intertidal/subtidal mud and sand habitats across 5 SACs towards Favourable condition. This will be achieved by utilising best practice management techniques for reducing recreational pressure such as environmentally friendly moorings (eco-moorings), voluntary codes, targeted training, behavioural change, managing access and habitat restoration.
- Demonstrate large scale successful restoration and management techniques across the project’s SACs and elsewhere.
- Promote awareness and inspire better care of sensitive habitats such as seagrass by recreational users and use networks of relevant stakeholders and public at a local, national and trans-national level to maximise the longevity and sustainability of the project actions.
The project needs an experienced part time Communications Officer to help deliver awareness raising and engagement activities. A key focus of the project is on changing stakeholder behaviour to ensure that sensitive habitats are recognised as a valued asset and behaviours are influenced to mitigate further damage. The project will be targeting activities at a range of stakeholders including recreational boaters, bait collectors, school groups and the general public and engaging with a network of organisations such as management authorities, research centres and other LIFE projects. The Communications Officer will be crucial to get the right messages across to the right audiences. The Communications Officer will work closely with the Project Manager, the Defra Communications team and core partners with assistance from the Project Steering Group.
