It’s estimated that businesses in Tunbridge Wells have lost a combined total of somewhere between £10 million and £20 million because of the South East Water crisis, reports ITV.

That’s according to the MP for Tunbridge Wells, Mike Martin, who has now launched an online consultation for local businesses to share the losses they suffered during the outages.

More than 24,000 homes lost their water supply with schools, care homes and businesses disrupted in the lead-up to Christmas.

Speaking to ITV Meridian Mr Martin said: “When South East Water came to Parliament on 6th January, they said that they would look at evidence claims from businesses.

“I’m working with the Business Improvement District and Tunbridge Wells Borough Council to gather that evidence from local businesses,

“We’re very early doors, we’ve only had a small number of responses, but it looks like the losses are somewhere between £10 and £20 million for businesses in Tunbridge Wells.

“For each business, that’s thousands of pounds that they’ve lost in turnover in that crucial pre-Christmas period.”
