Our Team

The Natural Power Consenting & Environment team offers and performs a range of planning and environmental related services right the way through a renewable energy project’s life.

We bring together qualified planners and project managers with a range of technical specialists to support our clients through site identification, feasibility, scoping, EIA, HRA, and post-consent support. For offshore projects we also provide support on bidding into lease rounds and bring together specialists for each of the onshore and offshore components.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

We have an exceptional opportunity for an experienced marine mammal specialist to join our growing offshore team in a Senior Environmental Consultant role. We are seeking a dynamic individual with relevant experience who is looking to progress their career within an ambitious renewable energy consultancy, working primarily in offshore wind projects. The main purpose of the role is to ensure the successful co- ordination, management, delivery and QA of marine mammal ecology inputs into projects including environmental impact assessments and habitats regulations assessments. You will have relevant project experience of ecological impact assessments for marine mammals and of renewable energy infrastructure, and have the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.

You will work alongside a team of environmental consultants as well other offshore specialists covering planning, ornithology, benthic habitats, and fisheries. We are a growing, forward thinking, collaborative, and open team, helping the UK transition to green energy and reduce carbon emissions. Key activities / responsibilities will include:

Be responsible for the specific co-ordination and delivery of offshore wind projects, principally, marine mammal assessments relevant to Environmental Impact Assessment/Environmental Statement, Habitats Regulations Assessment, marine licence applications, screening/scoping and feasibility studies

Maintain and develop relationships with clients, colleagues, consultee bodies and industry contacts to successfully deliver projects and assist our continued business growth

Engage and manage stakeholders, dealing with queries and addressing issues as well as organising and attending public exhibitions

Manage, mentor and support the personal development of junior members of the Planning & Environment team as requested by Managers

Responsibility for the on-time, on-quality, on-budget delivery of projects, coordinating resources to achieve milestones

General Responsibilities

Person Profile

Area: Education & Qualifications

Essential Criteria

Educated to BSc in Marine or Environmental science and/or equivalent experience

Desirable Criteria

Relevant professional qualification such as IEMA, CIEEM

Educated to MSc or PhD level in a relevant discipline

Area: Specialist Knowledge & Skills

Essential Criteria

Knowledge and experience of the renewables sector

Be able to provide clear and concise instructions to ensure objectives are understood

Adopt a flexible approach to be able to manage tasks concurrently, and to be able to handle short notice pieces of work

Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to effectively manage relationships with clients and also colleagues within

Be proactive and motivated to participate and promote department growth

Show initiative to solve problems and provide innovative ideas

Possess excellent team working skills and have the ability to motivate individuals and teams

Technical writing to high quality and co- ordination of large reports with multiple contributors

Desirable Criteria

Knowledge of EIA including survey design, data collection, data analysis and interpretation, and impact assessments

Knowledge of planning and consents systems including experience of Strategic Infrastructure Development Projects and/or evolving marine permitting legislation

Previous experience with offshore wind permitting
