    2023 hottest year ever

    2023 was officially the warmest year on record, overtaking the previous warmest year 2016 by a large margin 2016, according to the Copernicus Climate Change Service.

    According to the ERA5 dataset, the global-average temperature for 2023 was 14.98°C, 0.17°C higher than recorded for 2016.

    It is likely that a 12-month period ending in January or February 2024 will exceed 1.5°C above the pre-industrial level.
