Trends in Marine Activities in the North West, North East, South East and South West English marine plan regions – Call for Information

Do you have information on past or possible future trends in marine activities in the North West, North East, South East or South West English marine plan regions?

Do you have information on current and possible future drivers of change in marine activities relevant to these marine plan regions?

If so, we would like to hear from you.

ABPmer has been commissioned by the Marine Management Organisation to collate and present information on historic (last 10  – 20 years) and possible future (6 to 20 years) trends in marine activities in the North West, North East, South East and South West English marine plan regions.

The marine activities that are being considered comprise:

  • Defence
  • Energy Production (comprising: Wind energy, Wave and tidal energy, Oil and gas, Nuclear, Offshore electricity networks, Carbon capture and storage)
  • Ports, shipping, dredging and disposal
  • Marine aggregates
  • Telecom cables
  • Aquaculture and fisheries
  • Surface water/wastewater management
  • Tourism and recreation

We are particularly interested in stakeholder evidence and views on the key changes and/or advances of significance affecting the activities as well as any additional intelligence on potentially significant future changes (both England relevant and global megatrends) that might affect the above going forwards.

The project will be carried out between January to March 2017.

The study forms part of the Marine Management Organisation’s work to develop marine plans for the north east, north west, south east and south west English marine plan areas. The information will be used by the MMO to inform the development of plans and to support further engagement with stakeholders. If you would like to get in touch with the project team, please contact Tom Clements at ABPmer by email tclements@abpmer.co.uk.

Note: The Marine Management Organisation is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs. They licence, regulate and plan marine activities in the seas around England and Wales so that they’re carried out in a sustainable way.
