Insight from Environmental Professionals on the EU

‘The Society for the Environment was pleased to team up with the ENDS Report to explore the thinking of environmental professionals on membership of the European Union.  The survey results of almost 1,000 practitioners revealed, perhaps unsurprisingly, that they believe the EU has been a force for progress on environmental matters.

What’s interesting, however, is the insight into attitudes towards environmental priorities and towards key bodies, both at EU and national level, on the implementation of environmental legislation.  Whatever the outcome of the referendum, it’s clear that environmental professionals do not believe the EU has got everything right. The survey results, along with the analysis by the ENDS Report, give a realistic overview of how the sector sees the benefits and the dis-benefits of EU membership.  Post the referendum, the Society for the Environment believes that professional competence will remain key to good sense decision making. ‘
