Despite the delay, this project still has a great deal of support.

Wales Online: Swansea Bay tidal lagoon enjoys strong support from MPs and Conservative councillors according to a new poll. The survey, carried out by ComRes for Tidal Lagoon Power, found that 83% of Conservative MPs and 71% of Labour MPs support the project. In Wales the figure is higher with 90% of MPs surveyed supporting the £1bn scheme.

The research surveyed 150 MPs from across the UK (61 Conservative), and 303 Conservative councillors across England and Wales. It found support for the project even higher among Conservative councillors, with 84% backing the lagoon. Gower MP Byron Davies said: “This research supports what I have witnessed first-hand in Westminster and that is the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon Project has a strong base of support amongst Conservative MPs. Gower MP Byron Davies said: “This research supports what I have witnessed first-hand in Westminster and that is the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon Project has a strong base of support amongst Conservative MPs. “I held an event for this project in the Houses of Parliament and it was striking how much support the project has not just from Welsh MPs but from members from across the United Kingdom. “There is a genuine cross-party consensus building on the potential of tidal lagoon technology and I look forward to continuing these cross-party efforts in support of this project in the near future.” Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon, which featured in the Conservative party manifesto at the 2015 general election, would be the first power station of its kind in the world if completed.
