Eve Leegwater writes: Here are some links to our EA Estuaries and Coast involvement at COP26.

On 1 November, a 3 min film introducing the Restoring Meadows, Marsh and Reef (ReMeMaRe) initiative was shown at the international opening event for the COP26 Virtual Ocean Pavilion (VOP).

On Ocean Action Day, 5 November, ReMeMaRe launched a suite of practical handbooks to facilitate the restoration of seagrass meadow, saltmarsh and native oyster reef habitats, as well as restoring estuarine and coastal habitats with dredged sediment. It is hoped these handbooks will help increase practical habitat restoration on a grand scale to support coastal resilience and provide carbon sequestration benefits.

On 7 November, the team partnered with the RSPB on a live session: Coast to coast: nature-based solutions for climate, biodiversity and people, which premiered a film on coastal wetland habitat restoration around the world. Roger Proudfoot (EA, Estuaries & Coast Manager) and Michael Copleston (RSPB, Head of Land) were joined on the Q&A panel alongside representatives online from China, and South Korea. It’s fantastic to hear that China and South Korea are working together with North Korea to actively restore coastal wetlands on a huge scale.
