Nash Maritime is an exciting consultancy combining hands on marine expertise with scientific rigour in delivering marine, shipping and navigation consultancy projects across the renewables, oil & gas and ports/maritime sectors.

To do this, we need amazing people so we’re looking to grow the team and hire a Graduate Analyst/Consultant and a Senior/Principal Consultant.


Graduate Analyst/Consultant

Overview – The role
We are looking for a capable and enthusiastic analyst with a strong analytical, GIS, and/or mathematical capability to join our team. You’ll be part of our core team delivering marine, shipping and navigation consultancy projects across the renewables, oil and gas and ports/maritime sectors.

Your role will involve data analysis using proprietary software including GIS applications, risk and safety modelling using specialist tools and software, risk assessment and report writing. On a typical project you may be geospatially analysing and interpreting maritime vessel traffic data to characterise shipping traffic and interface with environmental and engineering decision makers on potential navigation impacts. You’ll be working on analytical tasks independently and cross functionally with our team of mariners, harbour masters and technical specialists to bring together the skills and capabilities of the wider team.

You will start where you have most experience and skills, and gradually build out your expertise across our services and sectors. Appropriate training and development support will be provided as part of a tailored career progression plan and we will support you towards membership and chartered status of a relevant professional institution.

Competencies
The successful candidate must have:

  • BSc (Hons) degree in a numerate subject e.g. science, maths, geography or engineering
  • Ability to apply your technical knowledge to analyse problems and find innovative solutions
  • Experience of handling and analysing datasets
  • Computer literacy and competency with QGIS (or ESRI) and MS office suite
  • Excellent English language writing and oral communication skills
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently with initiative and as part of a team
  • Enthusiastic with drive, attitude and willingness to learn

Ideally you will also have:

  • Maritime interest
  • An interest in working within a consultancy environment
  • Master’s degree or higher
  • Understanding and knowledge of statistical analysis
  • An interest or experience in coding
  • An interest in developing digital and technology-based solutions

Senior / Principal Consultant

Overview – The role
We are looking for a capable and enthusiastic consultant with maritime experience and credibility to deliver shipping & navigation consultancy projects and navigation risk assessments. You’ll be part of our core team delivering marine, shipping and navigation consultancy projects across renewables, oil and gas and ports/maritime sectors.

Your role will involve delivering technical consultancy projects leveraging off your area of technical expertise and working cross functionally with our team of mariners, harbour masters and technical specialists to bring together the skills and capabilities of the wider team.
Your role has potential to develop quickly – taking responsibility for defined areas such as technical delivery, project management, business development or team leadership around your skills, interests and the business needs. The company has a strong commitment to professional development and ensuring you have the right training and skills to do your job well.

Competencies
The successful candidate must have:

  • Relevant degree
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in consultancy and/or maritime domain (e.g. marine scientist, coastal/civil engineer, marine environmental professional, risk professional, mariner, harbourmaster, HSSE)
  • Computer literacy and competency with MS office suite
  • Excellent report writing, English language and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with initiative and as part of a team and with clients and stakeholders
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • Experience of managing projects and co-ordinating tasks
  • Experience of bidding for work

Ideally you will also have:

  • Passion and understanding for working in a consultancy environment
  • Experience of Environmental Impact Assessment, licensing and consenting
  • Experience of co-ordinating or undertaking marine technical reports and navigation risk assessments
  • Industry presence and network
  • Membership and chartered status (or progression towards) with a relevant professional institution

Logistics and application process
The opportunities are offered on a permanent employee basis (subject to a 6 month probationary period) and are based at our modern waterfront offices in Southampton though some travel will be required. The successful candidates must have the right to live and work in the UK and will live within commuting distance of Southampton or be prepared to relocate.
