Distance Learning Course in Marine Biology
Open to all over the age of 18, Newcastle University is again running its 6 month introductory course in Marine Biology. Commencing 1st March 2019, no previous knowledge of science or marine biology is required to enrol.
The course is aimed at enthusiasts who wish to extend their understanding of the marine world, and their experience of diving, surfing or sea-angling through more formal study. Learning is done from the comfort of your own home through online materials, with an additional one-week long residential course at Newcastle University, UK in May. Several organisations within the marine sector have used this course to upskill their staff with remits for marine agendas or conservation, who do not otherwise have a marine background.
The field course is considered by participants to be the highlight: meeting like-minded people, hearing from experts, boat-trips and laboratory-based practicals, studying plankton, seaweeds, in-sediment invertebrates and experiencing the stunning Northumberland coastline.
