Alastair Chisholm – We welcome the Government recognition of the issues around SuDS. Local Authority resources are stretched and developer understanding of multiple benefits is low. CIWEM believe we need stronger government guidance for real progress by developers not least on understanding the multifunctional benefits. We can’t rely on industry groups alone – see our report from last year https://www.ciwem.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/A-Place-for-SuDS-Online.pdf

MHCLG: ‘A review of the application and effectiveness of planning policy for sustainable drainage systems

A report on the use of sustainable drainage systems in new development after the introduction of new planning policy on such systems in 2014. The report examines how national planning policies for sustainable drainage systems are reflected in local plans and the uptake of these systems across a range of housing and commercial developments in England. The review was undertaken by MHCLG during 2016 and 2017 with the support of Defra and the Environment Agency.’ Click here to read the report
