Northumbrian Water has signed a green deal with Orsted to power all 1,858 of its sites using renewable electricity for the next four years. The deal is worth more than £100 million and builds on the company’s existing sustainability commitments including using 100 per cent of its sewage sludge to create energy through advanced anaerobic digestion.

Northumbrian Water has turned to Lightsource BP for the development of 10 ground-mount solar farms to help power its operations. The arrays are to be built on Northumbrian Water-owned sites and are expected to generate as many as 10GWh of power each year.
