Two reports

1. Building Resilience in Fisheries Governance – EDF & ABPmer Report

Research undertaken by ABPmer on behalf of the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) to consider future potential governance arrangements for fisheries in the N.E. Atlantic region is now available.

Climate-related impacts on the range and distribution of commercial fish stocks are likely to intensify in coming decades and will increasingly challenge existing institutions and governance arrangements for managing fisheries. ABPmer was commissioned to take forward research on the existing governance arrangements for fisheries in the North East Atlantic region, and identify how they can be strengthened to respond to these upcoming challenges. The existing governance framework was reviewed and case studies from around the world were used to identify the key features required to build an adaptive, flexible fisheries governance framework.

2. Fishing for the Future: Supporting local communities

A PDF of the interim research Fishing for a Future is now available to download from our website: http://www.seafarers.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Fishing-for-a-Future.pdf . You may also be interested to see a news article from our conference here.    This research is very much a work in progress and we are keen to ensure that we “get it right” and represent the needs of fishermen and their communities accurately in the final research report which will be available in late spring.

Once you have had a chance to read the research if you think that there are any inaccuracies, anything that has been overlooked, misunderstood, misrepresented, or you would just like to share your thoughts on the research – please do get in touch. You can email fishingforum@seafarers.uk or give me a phone call.
