Coast Explorer Internship
Are you interested in developing a career in the marine sector?
The Coast Explorer Internship Programme provides young people with the opportunity to gain work experience to pursue a career in sectors affiliated with the marine environment.
Participants, between the ages of 18 and 25, will be provided with a structured work experience programme that includes specialist skills and on-the-job training in the areas of marine ecology, renewable energy development, coastal management and community engagement.
The internship will include the following type of activities:
- Work experience in more than one organisation’s offices related to marine ecology, GIS, marine policy and legislation;
- Fieldwork including marine vessel experience, shellfish sampling, beach monitoring;
- Community engagement through public events, meetings and surveys as well as experience of presenting and leading activities;
- Research and report writing: a project will be set for each intern to enable some foundation level research to be undertaken and used by the sponsoring organisations.
The internship will run from June to September and will take place at a number of locations including London and the North Kent Coast (Thanet, Whitstable, Herne Bay and Reculver Beach). The internship will be unpaid but all travel and subsistence expenses (within reason) will be reimbursed.
Candidates will be an allocated a mentor whilst on the programme to provide informal advice and information on career options, further education and or potential employers. The candidate will receive a certificate on completion.
